Popol Ace - Popol Vuh(1972 nor prog hard rock)

Popol Ace - Popol Vuh

Sounds like Greenslade etc. Great, warm, symphonic, sympathetic! But anyway, also some hard/blues/rock, nice too, but not so nice, at least the more poppy parts. Enough good because of many great moments.

Finjarn & Jensen - Finjarn & Jensen (Nor psych prog 1972)

Finjarn & Jensen - Finjarn & Jensen
Incredibly varied album by talented musicians somewhat ahead of their time, closing on progressive while retaining a strong sense of pop & humour.

FLAX - ONE (Nor Heavy Prog-1976)

Bellissimo disco di heavy prog di stampo scandinavo! La prog come intuirete è legata agli standard di un Hevy rock...mi sento di consigliarvi "Demon In Your Heart" la bellissima "Have You Seen My Friend" e la rockeggiante "Wanna Rock You"...all'interno ho messo delle info trovate in rete...buon divertimento!

Reissue of 1976 killer heavy progressive rock album from Norway that was originally on Vertigo. Loaded with mellotrons and superb guitar work this release is similar in places to bands like Weed, Gracious and Czar, the overall effect being epic and heavy yet retaining a melodic edge. A great album.

Freddy Lindquist – Menu (great 1970 Nor Heavy Rock)

Freddy Lindquist - Menu

Sto diventando troppo di parte per i dischi delle terre del nord!!!ottimo disco con un ottimo "riffing" e un gusto che spazia tra più generi, tutti suonati in una maniera impeccabile!consigliato!

CD reissue of one and only 1970 album by Freddy Lindquist, who was once member of the Vanguards in 1966, replaicing Terje Rypdal. Freddie could be regarded as the 'Hendrix' of Norway, a true guitar-vinking!! Great fluid guitar rock from Norways leading guitar-prince, next in line to King Terje Rypdal. If comparisons are required the album is reminiscent of Miller Anderson's solo album "Bright City". – freakemporium.com

Freddy Lindquist was a veteran of several Norwegian beat bands before embarking on his solo album in 1970. Moving on to heavy rock he produced an album in the classic vein of Cream and Taste – the comparison being even more apt as the addition of two help-mates made the band into a trio. The guitar-work on the opener ‘Sundae Sellers’ is very Clapton-influenced, although in no way just a copy-cat, and the jazzy ‘Green And Pink Little Man’ shows Lindquist is equally at home with hard rock. ‘Shakaro’ is a flute-led instrumental which nicely breaks up the album, before ‘How Nice’ re-introduces the guitar as the lead instrument for it’s own showcase. A heavy, heavy version of Los Bravos’ ‘Black Is Black’ – done a la Vanilla Fudge - is one of the highlights of the album, but Lindquist’s own offerings like ‘Women Running Around’ and ‘Join In And Freak Out’ are equally fine, and make this a truly excellent album. All the songs are sung in English, and have a definite British vibe to them, making them accessible to a worldwide audience. Always highly regarded in Norway, Lindquist is now getting belated recognition with the re-appearance of this release, and it should be checked out by anyone into classic heavy rock.

Prudence - Great Norway prog folk!!!!!

Vi posto questo gruppazzo!mi sono piaciuti moltissimo per il loro mix prog folk(ricco di spunti interessanti, anche per la varietà degli strumenti suonati!) assolutissimamente consigliati tutti e 2!!!!
Prudence-Tomorrow May Be Vanished Victoria "Så Bærre Pass Dæ!(1972)

'Prudence

Inspired by artists like The Band and Jethro Tull, Prudence dug into their own Norwegian small town roots for inspiration. In 1972 they surfaced with this absolutely astonishing debut album. Having spent the years before as a well kept secret of northern Norway, they gained instant recognition. Combining acoustic instruments like accordeon, mandolin and flute with electric guitars, bass and drums, they created a style that still echoes. This album is where it all began.

Ruphus - New Born Day (1973nor heavy prog)
Ruphus - New Born Day

Excellent debut by this Norwegien band. The album is hard progressive rock at it's finest. Sort of like 'Uriah Heep' meets 'Yes'?

The instrumentation here is, bass/guitar/organ interplay, male and female vocals. The female vocalist, Gudny Aspaas's voice is stunning, almost resembling Maggie Bell (Stone the Crows) or Candy Givens(Zephyr).
Normally I would not care much for that style of vocal on a progressive rock album, but here it seems to work very well.
The keyboard player 'Hakon Graf' is a great Hammond B-3 player, and has a superb technique so familiar to that era.
The bass player 'Asle Nilsen' has a sound much like Chris Squire.
The drumming supplied by 'Thor Bendikson', is solid throughout.
Guitarist, 'Hans Pelter Danielson' is a competant/adequate player, and he does let go with a nice solo now and then, but the bass playing and the keyboards do more for me here.
If your into early 70s progressive rock, this album as well as their follow up, are highly recommended.
