Seedog - We Hope to See You..(1972 krautrock psych jazz ger)

Seedog - We Hope to See You..
On a label most known for two highly regarded avant Krautrock albums - Code III and Sand - Seedog couldn't be more different. This album has a poor reputation, most likely a reaction to the fact its not anywhere near the same style of the two aforementioned bands. It's not Krautrock in the traditional style, yet many of the elements are present: Soaring flute, long tracks and loud guitar solos. It would be passable as an album on Brain, perhaps a companion piece to albums by Cornucopia, Lava and Satin Whale. "We Hope to See You" is song oriented, with way too many vocals in accented English. But it's surprisingly listenable with a chugging acoustic guitar driving the generally happy tone of the album. Had Agitation Free added a multitude of vocals after their "Second" album, then I could imagine Seedog coming from that. And, as it turns out, a former Agitation Free member indeed is a member of Seedog. Much better than I expected.

Utopia - Utopia (1973 Ger Krautrock)

Utopia - Utopia

Probably more like 3.75 stars. Unless you're a confused Todd Rundgren fan, you probably aren't reading this unless you're more than just a casual fan of Amon Duul II. So, should you add this to your pile of ADII CDs? Yes, if you can find it (not that easy) for a reasonable price (even harder). You're probably aware that technically this isn't even an Amon Duul record; their name was attached only upon a 2nd CD re-release. It began as one member's solo project and then the AD principals jumped in and helped. Thus, in hindsight, calling it an ADII record isn't too much of a stretch. The music itself is pleasantly all over the place. 'Alice' sounds kind of like Kevin Ayers w/a bad sore throat. 'Nasi Goring' sounds like grooved-out '60s Italian soundtrack music. 'Deutsch Nepal' is 'Stonehenge'-era Spinal Tap as hell (including the tongue-in-cheek aspect). 'Jazz Kiste' sounds like a '70s Miles Davis track (think 'Big Fun' or 'On The Corner' but not as repetitive). The rest is maybe a bit more conventional but certainly listenable. The version I have is the Gammarock CD. It includes some bonus tracks. Two are pretty awful (circa '97 recordings; trying way too hard to sound contemporary), one is yet another version of 'Deutsch Nepal' (OK but sort of 'who cares'), and the last three are actually songs by the band 18 Karat Gold (which included somebody from ADII). I assumed these would be pure dreck but 2 of them ('Goldrush' and 'Star Eyed') are quite good. The bottom line I guess is this is worth buying if you have the first 4 or 5 ADII albums and want to add a decent little coda to your collection.

Galaxy - Visions (1978 kraut prog germany)

Galaxy - Visions
This is somewhat commercial sounding prog with some garage influences and fairly typical for it's vintage, soft-into-hard style on many of the cuts. Inconsistent quality too; of the 8 tracks, 1 cut gets a B+, 4 get B's, 1 B-, a C+, and a C-. I guess with better than half at or above the dividing line between good and average, this is overall a decent album. This reissue comes with the giant Germ/Eng. booklet that most of the issues on this label have. Hardcore krautrockers may have a tough time with this, but if you have leanings towards late 70's proto-metal, this may be more up your alley. From RYM (tymeshifter)

Altona - Chickenfarm (1975 kraut jazz ger)

Altona - Chickenfarm
This is so my style of Jazz Rock song lengths that are within the 4-5 minute range with the exception of the wonderful 10 minute title track song. This album has a lot of catchy tunes and great singing from Karl Heinz Blumenberg for serious Jazz lovers this album wont be to their liking it isnt adventerous enough. However for this guy who does not like crazy heavy jazz fusion i consider that stuff way to hard on the ears this album is great. I believe there are a few different types of Saxaphone's on the album no trumpets and trombones. I like five songs from this album the slower ballad (Lover's Tale) and the uptempo Elephant Walk, Back Again & Ramadam and of course the moody title track. Check this album out its very good From RYM (classicrockman)

Gash - A Young Man's Gash (1972 kraut prog germany)

Gash - A Young Man's Gash
This album is an unexpected surprise! I can think of few albums that start so horribly and end so incredibly! “Angel and Mother” is SO appalling on every level (soppy music, terrible lyrics, cheese-grater-to-the-eardrum vocals) it nearly made me want to throw the disc out of the window when I first heard it! But I stuck with it through the balance of the A-side (“Twentyone Days” is nearly as bad, but “In The Sea” is slightly better, sounding like one of Jane’s cast-offs) to make it to the “A Young Man’s Gash” suite. People, let me tell you this is one of the most amazing, fascinating and one-of-a-kind half-albums I have ever heard! It almost sounds like a completely different band! A blend of haunting rock & roll, orchestration and dark textures (the crazed screaming in Part 2 makes this a must to play around Halloween time!) that sound like nothing else I’ve heard before or since. Wow! Worth hearing for the mind-blowing title suite, but you might want to give the first three tracks a pass. From RYM (progbear)

Pentagon - Die Vertreibung der bösen Geister aus dem Pentagon (1970 Germ Krautrock)

Pentagon - Die Vertreibung der bösen Geister aus dem Pentagon
Sounding very much like the trio they were, this is mostly instrumental, somewhat crudely produced, fairly heavy, garage-driven blues/rock with some prog influences. Grades - 5 B's, 1 B-, and a C-, extremely consistently good, except for a completely out-of-place short inst. at the end ("Dawn"). Comes with booklet. From RYM (tymeshifter)

El Shalom - Frost (1976 great kraurrock-prog)

El Shalom - Frost

Fairly typical mid-70's symphonic prog. Featuring a mix of English and German vocals, this is a decent blend of medium and hard prog with synthesizer and symphonic moves, as well as some heavy guitar. My track gradings are all pretty evenly spaced between C+ and B+, including the bonus tracks. Comes with the standard Garden of Delights booklet. Recommended.

Autosalvage - Autosalvage(1968 heavy psych)
Autosalvage - Autosalvage
Extremely metallic psychedelic classic that is very unusual and intriguing. I have a vinyl pressing that is extremely loud and far better than a CD issue I have heard. The sound is reminiscent of the crunching rhythm guitar / bass / drum sound of Revolver tracks like Taxman and Dr Robert with a dense web of counterpoint between tightly structured bass and electric guitar lines, a little reminiscent of Marquee Moon. The sound is quite fascinating and the dense counterpoint metallic approach is sustained throughout the album. The vocals are a weakness however - it is the tracks that really stand out as a tour de force of arranging structured guitar and bass parts. This is psychedelia but experimental and definitely of interest to fans of electric guitar and metallic sounds. Another fascinating one-album band and a personal favourite.

KRAUTROCK!
EPSILON-MOVE ON (1972)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Ancora un post!
Poche parole per questo disco!Secondo me merita un ascolto pur non essendo eccezionale...ci sono delle song veramente belle, su tutte "Reichelsheilm" e "walk on my way" che fa un po il verso a "strange kind of a woman" dei purple e la jehtrotulleggiante "feelings" con un bel flauto pieno di sentimento...Che dire...Buon Ascolto!

rewiew by "The crack in the cosmic egg"

"Initially working under the name Karthago and with a repertoire of The Nice compositions, they changed radically when joined by the former Orange Peel and Nosferatu guitarist/vocalist Michael Winzkowski. Upon realising that another band called Karthago existed in Berlin, the name Epsilon was chosen instead. Typical of bands from Marburg (cf. Pell Mell, Frame, etc.) Epsilon drew heavily on classical music in an original and complex progressive rock, in a very different way to their British or Italian counterparts, especially so on side one of their debut, which blends in these classical influences in a very unusual and original manner, not least so a classical styled rendition of The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black". It all amounts to an odd album that covers a lot of ground, yet is also excellent throughout. Subsequent releases moved onto hard-rock and blues realms, though MOVE ON was surprisingly good for a more mainstream song-based rock album, with some nice folky touches breaking the mood occasionally. And, even on the straight hard-rock EPSILON OFF they still retained the unique Epsilon sound with Winzkowski's unusual vocals. However, we suspect that the later singles are of no real interest!"

KARTHAGO - SECOND STEP
(1974-Hard rock-kraut)

Karthago - Second Step

A classic teutonic German progressive rock fusion album in the same vein as Gila, Virus, 2066 & Then, Thirsty Moon or Os Mundi. The album contains four long tracks heavy on instrumental workouts and full of surprises. "The Raven" has a gloomy air, with quotes from Edgar Allan Poe. Jochen Petersen handles all manner of wind instruments amongst 5-other members who create a wonderful atmosphere utilizing organ, guitar, bass, drums and percussion in a uniquely spacious and dynamic style. It's a real shame as this self-titled LP was Ikarus' sole release. RECOMMENDED!

EMTIDI - S/T (krautrock-folk-1970)

EMTIDI's debut album is containing mainly quite simple psychedelic folk and the dominant instrument used in most of the songs is acoustic guitar.

Emtidi-Saat (1972 kraut folk)

Emtidi - Saat

Di questo gruppo vi ho postato il disco omonimo qualche tempo fa, e ora vi lascio questo secondo lavoro che tutto sommato non si discosta dal genere krautfolk tipico del primo disco stesso...Bellissima la cover!a voi!

Emtidi
Emtidi was a German duo stuck somewhere between the Kosmische and psychedelic movements stylistically. Despite having only two members a full sound is provided, as Maik Hirschfeldt provides guitars, flute, some keyboards and vocals while Dolly Holmes is charged with lead vocals and most of the keyboard work.Much of the instrumental work here is soothing and relaxed, a sun-drenched counterpart to groups like Tangerine Dream. The drone at the start of "Touch the Sun" is reminiscent of that band's Alpha Centauri, although it features moments of wistful release rather than perpetually building an anxious, hopeless tension. Some wilder Krautish moments show up on tracks like "Die Reise", but for the most part chaos is minimal.
The duo sometimes eschews lyrics in favour of vocalisations, which work pretty well within the framework of the music. One good argument with sticking to vocalisations is "Walking in the Park", featuring the incredible line (no, I am not making this up), "Don't sit on the grass, it's too cold for your ass". A nice hippie sentiment, but I suspect the language barrier makes this one more hilarious than intended. Holmes' voice is somewhat reminiscent of Annie Haslam's, although somewhat thinner. One realizes that comparing a female voice to Haslam's is a prog rock reviewing cliché, but in this case it's absolutely valid. Hirschfeldt grabs lead vocals on the final track, in German, although he tends to speak them more than anything.
If the idea of crossing Renaissance with Tangerine Dream and having them add some psychedelic acoustic material appeals to you, rush right out and grab this. I find the combination pretty appealing, as despite the variety of styles presented each one is strong in its own right.
Emtidi was the duo of Maik Hirschfeldt and Dolly Holmes (she was also a guest on The Incredible String Band's The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter). Based in Germany, the partnership's music can best be described as folk music with a prog tinge. Maik provided twelve-string guitar tapestries often times reminiscent of Anthony Phillips. Dolly's keyboard arsenal included acoustic and electric piano, spinet, Hammond, and mellotron, and her passages on these are laced with delicate Baroque-era stylings. The two both shared vocal duties, with Dolly usually taking lead. Her voice is usually right on the money (Maik's much less so), though in conjunction with the lyrics, can sound a bit hippie-dippy at times. Saat, recorded in 1972, was the duo's second release and is a pretty decent if not quite essential album. The best track on this album is the 11-minute "Touch the Sky," which drips with the Aquarianisms of the day, and has some great guitar and 'tron. "Love Time Rain," "Träume" and the title track are all enjoyable little tunes. "Walkin' in the Park" is nice, but tarnished by one awful (and repeated interminably, no less) lyrical line in the chorus that would make even Greg Lake turn red. You'll know which one I mean when you hear it. The closer, "Die Reise" is enjoyably bizarre, and is the only track sung in German. Texturally sparse: I often wonder what this would've sounded like with a full group backing it. The ending jam that closes "Walkin' in the Park," for example, sounds somewhat dinky with just two folks pluggin' away.

Pyramid - Pyramid(1976 ger space kraut)

Pyramid - Pyramid

very trippy instrumental kraut-psych with a huge amount of synthesizer and some great brain twisting guitar. Somewhat like ash ra tempel or cosmic jokers. One long 35 minute instrumental jam loaded with effects and a smoldering psychedelic atmosphere
