Great Swedish Progressive with Sympohinic moments, a heavy edge and the singer hit's the spot for me. I dont think people will understand what they are listening to but the album is consistantly good from start to finish!

Pandora - Measures of Time (1971?74 sweden prog)

Pandora was founded 1971 in Norrkoping, Sweden by drummer Bertil Jonsson and on guitar Urban Gotling. They release so far a single album in 1974 named Measures of time. The music is well played, with symphonic touches, they remind me in places of Beggar's Opera or even Genesis or Camel, nice keybords and pleasent voice overall. I realy enjoy this album , nothing realy groundbreaking, but as a whole a nice surprise. Quite complex arrangements, with nice atmosphere, a good prog album for that time, that stood the test quite well today. All pieces stands as good, not a weak moment here. The band lasted until 1981 when disbanded from diffrent reasons between musicians who already some of them left for another musical realms. Anyway the band has some good concerts , opening for Kaipa and Trettioariga Kriget. 3.5 for Measures of time, good rlease that needs a wider recognition, quite obscure and hard to fin, but not impossible.

Good archival release! The band is skilled and the compositions are mostly varied and unpredictable. The music is hard prog, similar to Trettioåriga Kriget. Recommended!

Kvartetten Som Sprängde - Kattvals(1970 swe superb jazz prog)

Instrumental hard rock reminiscent of the Doors minus Jim Morrison. The band does not try to reinvent the wheel, and the music benefits from this. These guys are excellent instrumentalists, but they are never showy or flashy. They only play fast enough to get the job done.
The only thing I could say to detract from this would be that sometimes it maybe could use a singer. But we are probably lucky not to have a wack-ass 1973 Swedish classic rock singer here, mucking up these splendid arrangements.

Buonissimo disco ancora dalla svezia!mi è piaciuto nonostante alcuni momenti sono molto soft...quando si incazzano però si sente che hanno stoffa da vendere!assolutamente consigliato!
The first song "Adrenalin" is very heavy, sounds like King Crimson (73-74).
After that the album is very soft, much similar to their first album. Great!

buon disco progressive con moltissime influenza che vanno da accenni hard rock fino a standard jazz rock (chew vanno per la maggiore in questo disco)senza mai sconfinare in una fusion...forse maggiore "casino" sarebbe stato più efficace in certi passaggi ma c'è del buono!

Reissue on CD of rare progressive rock album by an Icelandic band.Exceptional good and original, a bit similar in style to "Camel" and "Greenslade" but with more tempo changes, occasional female harmony vocals and Gentle Giant like oddities. Complete with funky intermezzos with strange vocals, breaks, Spanish guitar,little folk excursions and lots of other surprises. Originally released in 1976 and a real find for the fans of 70's prog.

Scusate ma io amo questo disco! Un mix esplosivo tra Deep Purple ed Uriah Heep!con un tocco di prog che non guasta!sono veramente innamorato!é un gruppo sWedese(!)e ci sono canzoni in lingua (!!!)e in inglese...beh a mio modo di vederesono molto più belle le canzoni in svedese!Come intuirete le maggior parte delle canzoni hanno un organo pulsante che rende la miscela esplosiva!personalmente è bastato un ascolto per innamoramene, spero altrettanto per voi!Come altre volte, nessuna song da consigliare...forse la prima traccia "Det Kan Val Inte Pole Farligt "(non è colpa mia se sono prolissi!) la 3 ("Jan Banan") e la spettacolare ultima "Sanningsserum".Provare per credere! Sto cercando gruppi simili a questi, se avete consigli sono in ascolto!

Rag I Ryggen's sound was in the vein of better known bands such as Uriah Heep, Deep Purple and early Black Sabbath, all circa early 70s. Their music has that driving bass and drum line, plenty of keyboards as both organ and synthesizers. Also of note and enjoyment is the use of two guitarists, providing some nice double solo work. The songs are split between English and Swedish lyrics. Spangaforsens Brus is an instrumental track that sounds like it may have its roots in folk music and reminds me a bit of the B-side of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" or Hergest Ridge in the guitar sound and overall compositional style. Both keyboard and guitar solos abound throughout. Naked Man uses flute in the intro before kicking in the heavy stuff and then reappearing in a Jethro Tull-ish solo toward the end. The last two tracks are live recordings, which remind me of why I was not a fan of live recordings back in the day; there's much distortion and poor sound quality. I'd have been happy with just the studio tracks.
Conclusion.If you enjoy the hard rock of the early '70s, (which is quite tame when compared to the hard rock of today) this could bring you some musical joy. Hammond Organ with a Leslie cabinet, wah-wah & fuzz-wah guitar effects: it's all here. The vocals are good, though to the native English speaker, the heavy Swedish accent can sound comical at times. The playing is good and something of a blast from the past from a band I never knew

Continuiamo sul filone swedese! questo è un ottimo disco con molte canzoni belle! mi piacciono le prime 3 traccie ("bitch"è quella che preferisco) in più c'è anche una ottima rivisitazione del Classico di Grieg "Hall of the mountan King" (che dovrebbe essere la 5 traccia che si chiama diversamente!). Una nota dolentissima la rec-fab che è la casa responsabile delle ristampa su cd ha fatto un lavoro pessimo e si sente un po' il fruscio del vinile anche se io ho rippato il disco da cd (originale!)

Sorry, i don't find any review about shaggy (fell free to send yours).. This is a very good work (heavy prog) I suggest the song "bitch" and the 5th track (it's a "cover" of grieg's "Hall Of The Mountan King"...revisited!) Highly Recommended!bye!

The third and ultimate issue of this bone crushing heavy blaster that can scare the shit out of any fainted hearted chicken. Housed in a nice Digi-Pak including a detailed story and plenty of unique pictures. Their 1975 singles are included as bonus. Also included are 4 brand new splendid heavy tracks with their new singer CHRISTIAN ANDRÈN. The two very last songs are with the band 4-ever which included Anders and Gösta. Their super rare vinyl single is available on this CD. Musically not far from the German band Tiger B. Smith. Go for this ultimate issue of the most thunderous Heavy album from the mid period of the glorious 1970s.

After having heard lots of hype about this one, I was rather underwhelmed when I finally did get a chance to listen to it. Yes, on the surface there are strong similarities to Finch and Focus and the like. Yes, the musicianship is impressive and the songs are complex.

The problem is, the compositions are quite poor. The band members do come up with interesting motival ideas, but are absolutely clueless as to how to string them together into coherent musical pieces. As a result, there’s not one memorable moment on the whole album. Well, apart from the bit in “Death” where they blatantly rip off King Crimson’s “Lark’s Tongues In Aspic, Part 2”, cleaved in two by a cheesy rendition of “In The Mood”.

I suppose I should cut them some slack as this was for all intents and purposes a demo, never intended for general release. Still, it’s really not all that much in the end. All the elements are there, but something’s missing. It’s kind of like a jigsaw puzzle that hasn’t been put together yet.

Dice - Dice (1978)

The album Dice featured a decent but somewhat distracting vocalist, but is a little more polished than The Four Riders… There’s still the same mix between upbeat major-key ditties, lush symphonic epics, and dissonant ostinatos. All of the tracks are very strong, but I find the instrumental breaks on “The Utopian Suntan,” the Focus-like instrumental “Annika,” and the glorious mellotron dirge “Esther” to be exceptional. The 22-minute suite “Follies” is an interesting look at schizophrenia. The lyrics are often poorly written but still well-sung and they suit the music pretty well. As is often the case, this album sounds more professional but less distinctive than the rawer predecessor. A lot of the songs are based very much on chord sequences or academic-sounding melodic patterns without a lot else going on. That doesn’t bother me, but it seems to strike others as being bland and unmemorable and more like exercises than well-developed compositions. I think they’re great though.

Träd, Gräs Och Stenar - Mors Mors (1973)

This is the Trad Gras record that I return to most. It's maybe not as endlessly deep as the head-spinning Parson Sound reissue or as drool-enducing as some of the jams on Sov Gott Rose-Marie, but that doesn't mean it's not worthy. This was one of the last releases from their first period together and it sounds like they're totally at ease, improvising, jamming and having amazing fun... Chrisboogie is one of their best, the guitars just effortlessly circling each other and lifting the rest of the band ever upwards. Last Time starts off a pretty straight Rolling Stones cover, before going all glassy-eyed and zoned out, the guitars icing over and locking into repetitive mantras. They did this on other records with 'All Along the Watchtower', and 'Satisfaction'; when it happens it turns pretty average covers into beautiful and mesmeric trance-outs. The drumming is also totally perfect, light and energetic and completely breathless throughout the 16 minutes of Sommerlaten. I absolutely love this record and would recommend it as a great starting point for anyone.
