Q65 - Revolution (holl 1966 garage)

Pretty impressive garage rock from this band from the Netherlands. The opener, "The Life I Live" is an excellent opener which, like almost every song, has a very garage feel to it. "I Got Nightmares" has some great rhythmic drum and bass while "Just Who's in Sight" has a definite Eastern feel to it, mostly because of the vocals, droning guitar, and some sort of flute interlude in the middle. The sax on "Mr. Pitiful" is well done as is the pounding rhythms and accompanying harmonica on "I'm a Man." "Summer Thoughts in a Field of Weed" is an excellent down tempo number and "Sour Wine" is another gem with haunting organ and acoustic guitar. "Bring it on Home" is a longer, bluesier thirteen minute jam that is great at times, but not at others, and needed to be about six or seven minutes shorter. From RYM (branting)

Slumberlandband - Slumberlandband (1975 holl folk prog)

This is an extremely pleasant little oddity by a few ex-C.C.C. Inc. members, which sounds better for my ears than the whole output of their previous band combined (and that's saying something because I actually have a soft spot for C.C.C. Inc. as well!). Partly Beatlesque pop (there is even a song called "The Beatles"!), partly good-timey countryish rock with fiddle a-la their parent band, and partly elaborate soft prog, it flows perfectly and provides a great soundtrack for a sunny day. Makes me wonder whether an unprecedented knack for bright, infectious melodies is something Dutch kids are taught at school, because I just can't think of another area where every bloody band is capable of writing an irresistible pop tune. Shocking Blue, Focus, Supersister, The Motions, Cosmic Dealer, Nits, Gruppo Sportivo, hell, even Mecano! Regardless of the genre, regardless of the complexity level, Lowlands abound with terrific melodies. And Slumberlandband is no exception.

Barry Hay - Only Parrots, Frogs and Angels (1972 holl v.good prog hard rock)

Un buon disco, sopratutto nella prima parte con la canzone Xena...purtoppo non tutto l disco si mantine sugli stessi standard dell'introduzione e tende un po' a scemare nella sua parte finale, lasciando un filo annoiato l'ascoltatore...tuttavia ci sono buoni momenti, concedete un ascolto!

Devo ringraziare il mio amico MIRI per avermi passato questa rarità! Un disco sconosciuto alle mie orecchie (e presumo a molti di voi!) che quindi potrà avere il giusto seguito di appassionati!
Come descritto brevemente dal titolo i nostri eroi suonano uno stile psych/folk molto bello, a tratti con forti venature blues!che dire...consigliatissimo!
Sto cercando il Disco "Piscen And capricorn" degli "O.p.m.c." se qualcuno lo avesse lo potrebbe uppare? Vi ringrazio Gia da adesso!!

bellissimo disco di musica psych che credo provenga dalla germania anche se le info in mio possesso sono un po limitate(come al solito se qualcuno sa di più...faccia sapere!)stiamo davanti ad una perla dimenticata...ottimo sound con ritornelli molto incisivi (il cantato è in inglese) e degni di nota!il sound è a cavallo con quello 60 (ma propende agli standard 70!)Assolutamente consigliato!

Gamma - Alpha(holl great prog 1972)

Dutch underground progressive rock, sort of like a garage-band version of Focus. Unfortunately, they have this horrible singer with a seasick sea-lion voice, kind of like a bad Vegas lounge singer trying to imitate Engelbert Humperdinck and failing miserably, who absolutely spoils every song on the album.

ottimo esempio di un bel prog sinfonico proveniente dai paesi bassi!
molto belli entrambi i dischi!sopratutto il primo lavoro è parecchio ispirato e pieno di "verve" prog con grande uso di tastiere, organo su tutti! ve li consiglio!

Finch - Glory of the Inner Force(1975)

Finch were formed in 1974 by bassist Peter Vink and drummer Beer Klaasse, who were both ex members of the renowned group Q65 from the Hague.
An ex Q65 road manager told Peter Vink of a 19 year old guitar virtuoso named Joop van Nimwegen. Joop's style of playing was very simular to Jan Akkermans in some ways, though he claims his biggest influences were blues guitarists Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) and the guitar wizards John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) and Steve Howe (Yes). After a telephone call, Joop agreed to come to the Hague to meet the other band memebers. Singer Dickie Koppenhagen sang with the band fro 7 months, and after one concert he left the band. Serious considerations were being made to go instrumental. The band even experimented with having a second drummer, Marco Vrolijk (ex Supersister), but this was confined only to the rehersal studio. Paul Vink comes to play the keyboard. He used to play in the band The 'Swinging Soul Machine' having written the instrumental hit 'Spooky's Day Off' for them. At this point, several auditions for a singer have taken place, but no one was chosen. Now they've decided to go instrumental, and the name Finch was chosen. Contrary to what most people believe, the name has nothing to do with the little bird of the same name. Translated in English, the word Finch means Vink! Eventually they are loaned 'Alquin's practice studio, and procede to make a demo tape. EMI offers the band a chance to make an album on their sub-label Negram, but are only given three days to complete it. Thanks to the professional level of Finch, producer Roy Beltman (at a later stage to be successful with BZN) is able to complete the venture successfully. Meanwhile keyboard player Paul Vink pulled out because he wanted to play funk. Taking up the advice of sound technician Arie Van Dam they ask Academy Of Music student 'Cleem Determeijer' as his successor. He and guitarist Joop Van Nimwegen hit it off right from the start. Thus the first Finch album is born! The four tracks on this LP are prime examples of the best progressive rock to ever emerge from Holland. The musicianship here is outstanding, with Joop giving Akkerman and Howe a run for their money. Cleem's classical training is really evident here, as he and Joop play off each other very well. Remarkable chemistry. Beer Klaasse's drumming is solid throughout, and Peter Vinks bass playing is superb, at times reminding me of Chris Squire, and playing a Ricky might help with that.
After it's Dutch release on the 'Negram' label, it was released in the USA on 'Atco'. Billboard Magazine wrote a very possitive review, and the next thing you know, 20,000 copies are sold!
I own both the US Atco, and the Dutch Negram pressings. At that time, Atlantic (Atco) were really pressing some shitty recycled vinyl, so try and find the Negram pressing if you can, there is a marginal difference in sound quality. Even the Atlantic pressings made in Canada sound better than the US pressings from this period.

Finch - Galleons of Passion(1977)

There were many ways for a prog rock band to end their career in the late '70s: turn to AOR, go mainstream, start writing more pop-oriented material that might not endear them to their old fans (but few wanted to latch on to the punk scene). Luckily Finch refused to fall in to the punk/disco/AOR trap that brought down many prog bands at that time. No longer recording for Negrum, Finch was now recording for Ariola (actually a division called Bubble Records), with two new guys. With keyboardist Cleem Determeijer and drummer Beer Klaase out of the picture, the band brought in Ad Wammes for keyboards and Hans Bosboom for drums. Here the band was going for a more conventional prog rock direction, mostly avoiding jams, as demonstrated on "Unspoken is the Word" and "Remembering the Future". "With Love as the Motive" starts off a bit experimental before going on to some great guitar riffs, before ending up in that dreaded "Beyond the Bizarre" (from Beyond Expression) territory by being rather cheesy. The final cut, "Reconciling" totally blew me away! Without a doubt, the band harking back to the best moments of Glory of the Inner Force, with some intense passages. This is where the band really gets jamming, something they hadn't really done on the rest of the album. Musically, there's no getting around the fact that this is 1977 (that is, the 1977 for those who refused to acknowledge punk rock existed), as the string synths are quite dominant here, with that spacy feel on some of the cuts. Good album, but nothing beats Glory of the Inner Force.

Kayak (superb melodic prog)

Kayak - Kayak 1974

This is a great album! Powerfull combination of symfonical influences and rock-guitar / pop. The songs are now and then very catchy with polyphone voices a la beatles, sometimes it souns like Yes or early Genesis.
The quality of this album is, that it is progressive and still poppy in a better way then Moody blues for example, in my humble opinion.

Kayak - Royal Bed Bouncer 1975

A wonderful, melodic, bouncy album by Kayak. The mood is lighter than even the most ethereal Genesis of the 1970's, but the playing, arranging, and words are top flight. I love the title track "Royal Bed Bouncer," the charming "You're So Bizarre," and the showstopping "Said No Word" which stands up to any proggy forceful song shy of heavy metal leanings. Nothing goes wrong on this album, but for all the enegry and finesse, there themes and silliness eventurally lessen the overall effect.

(great holland-prog krautrock)

Vi posto questo disco molto belli di musica prog (ma parliamo pure di un krautrock anche se il gruppo è di origine olandese)Ottime canzoni, ottime musiche prevalentemente con voce maschile (mi pare che sia la traccia 8 quella con una vocalist) e anche sapiente uso dei fiati (io non li amo particolarmente!!!)

The rock group Mr Albert Show from Eindhoven Holland, was formed in 1969 by Bertus Borgers (saxophone, flute and vocals), Roeland Boogaart (on drums), Tom Fautubun (on bass guitar), Eric Lintermans (guitar), and Bonki Bongaerts (organ). The band was named after a roadie. In 1970 their first single, Wild sensation / King of galaxy is released. The vocals on this track are by Floortje Klomp. The sound of this album is a sort of jazzy progressive music with the focus on the saxophone and the organ. This is a pretty cool LP, and would appeal to anyone into the lates 60 early 70s psych/progressive thing. Fairly tight arrangements, and lots of great weirdness here! Recommeneded.

Su richiesta posto questo disco che come il precedente è molto bello!ottimi spunti prog con grande uso della sezione "fiati!" tutto il disco è da sentire,ci sono molte parti superbe, a volte con un certo retrogusto Santana mischiata con i Jethro Tull...molto particolare no???da ascoltare!!

Oggi vi propongo questo gruppo olandese che è decisamente sopra il livello medio della band dell'epoca...ottimi musicisti, ottime canzoni con un gusto heavy prog mischiato gradevolmente con una vena sia classica (più evidente nell'ultimo lavoro) che "jazzeggiante". io preferisco il primo molto più organ-oriented...assolutamente raccomandato!

Absolutely fantastic instrumental progressive rock from Holland.TONS of superb and technically perfect hammond organ playing by Rick Van Der Linden who proves why he is justly regarded as one of the keyboard wizards in progressive rock.For me he IS the best next to Dave Stewart(Egg,National Health,etc).Apart the organ ,there is a fair amount of the holy Mellotron and almost any other kind of vintage keyboards you could dream of ..If you like keyboard driven progressive rock this album is a total must ! And i am really curious how mr.Emerson felt when he listened to this outstanding stuff...
