Legend - Fröm the Fjörds (us 1979 heavy prog)
this album isn't just timeless, it exists entirely outside of petty whims such as time and space. sure, we can point out the RUSH-isms, the CAPTAIN BEYOND-ations and the BUDGIE moves, and suggest that the angular, continually out-of-pocket instrumentation is indicative of the pomp and excess of the '70s, but this record, more than any other recording i can think of save for, yes, CAPTAIN BEYOND's ''s/t'', MERCYFUL FATE's ''don't break the oath'', MANILLA ROAD's ''crystal logic'', CIRITH UNGOL's ''king of the dead'' and SACRED BLADE's ''of the sun & moon'' has a transcendental, interstellar quality that, while bearing hallmarks of a bygone era, breaks free of any petty pigeonholing by virtue of its seamlessness, immaculateness, weightlessness and sheer strangeness. there is a continuity and flow here that is entirely CAPTAIN BEYOND, and like that album, it defies gravity as it floats mischievously from passage to passage, movement to movement, frayed ideas loosely connected by exquisite, flashy-but-refined chops and a poetic fluency that is breathtaking. add in the magnificent sword-and-sorcery lyrics, and you have something that predates the entire epic metal movement, yet towers majestically above it.
a remarkable achievement, a musical monolith, a staple in every heavy music collection. don't ignore it, few bands have achieved the degree of chemistry and artistry accomplished here...i have even grown to love ''r.a.r.z'' (LEGEND's unfortunate ''feeling free again'')

Vi passo questi link per questo gruppo jazz hard fusion molto piacevole da sentire nonostante non si possa gridare al capolavoro...molto sottotono il 2 disco rispetto al 1 e al 3 che sono molto più divertenti... mah...si sono presi troppo sul serio!buona prova nel complesso!

la proposta di oggi riguarda questo gruppo progressive brasiliano che a mio modesto avviso garantisce una grande qualità per le vostre orecchie!!!Concordo su una recensione che ho trovato; in certi passaggi emerge una anima "commerciale" (assolutamente non influente sulla qualità) ma in altri si assapora tutto lo spirito della progressive! a voi!

Trader Horne - Morning Way(1970 superb folk psych)
I was made aware of this album when a compilation of weird folk stuff had the track Morning Way.
seems like thats the most famous track (well, as famous as any of this) which is perhaps a little unrepresentative as its one of only tracks on this that Judy Dyble writes.
Fortunately thats not a problem, as the remainder of the tracks were by Jackie McAuley and are of an equally high standard.
what you get is an album essentially built around an acoustic folk base (though not in the "traditional" folk sense), with the wonderful duets of Dyble and McAuley - really, their vocals are one of the best combinations i've heard.
the songs vary in relation to the amount of weirdness, so on the one hand you get the droney The Mixed Up Kind which reminds me a lot of Wee Tam and The Big Huge era Incredible String Band or the dreamy title track, while on the other hand you get more straight forward songs like Jenny May or the poppy Sheena.
My only complaints are that i dont like Down And Out Blues or The Mutant (cant really tell you why, as i never listen to them. just never liked them), plus the single only track Here Comes The Rain should've replaced one of them.
but thats a minor quibble, as this really is a strong album. Its dreamy and childlike, but its also a little dark and oh those vocals........theyre heaven.
if you like weird late 60s/early 70s folk, then you NEED this album.

Agincourt - Fly Away(1970psych folk-prog)
This is a great album of folk-pop that uses mostly acoustic instruments, piano and very good vocals. "When I Awoke" is a softer, folky ballad with great male/female vocals and lyrics and a somewhat "haunting" sound. "Though I May Be Dreaming" has similar sounding vocals and features what sounds like an acoustic guitar, another stringed instrument possibly a harp, and a trace of flute. "Get Together" is a great pop song as is "Going Home." "Lisa" is a Beatle-esque piano ballad while "Through the Eyes of a Lifetime" is a great closing number.

Tantra - Mistérios e Maravilhas (Port.prog 1977)
'Tantra' were always touted as being Portugals #1 progressive rock band.
With this album, I feel they rival many of the better known bands outside their country!
Their music is very well written, and the players are all exceptional.
The recording and mixing on the original vinyl LP were as good as any at that time, which really helps when your dealing with a symph/prog album, played by musicians of this caliber.
It's obvious these guys were influenced by Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant ect, but they still manage to keep their sound fresh. Unlike so many other bands of that genre, who were basically clones of the aformentioned bands.
This is an excellent addition to any progressive rock collection!

German Oak - German Oak (1972 kraut)
This is dark, brooding psych/krautrock. The whole thing is more or less a guitar jam with heavy effects and intense drumming. It is much better than most krautrock you'll find out there. The version with the bonus tracks is recommended.
There aren't really any bad tracks. My only complaint is that it is essentially just a guitar jam session. It's nothing too inventive, but it is well done.

Breakout - NOL (pol-hard rock- prog 1976)
Ho scoperto per caso (come molta altra roba) questo dischi polacchi ma devo dire che ne sono rimasto colpito! Non sono un capolavori ma c'è del buono!
Ci sono belle canzoni molto ispirate e ben cantate!ovviamente non dispongo di molte info riguardo all'album per questo mi affido a voi! comunque credetemi vale l'ascolto!

Spanish prog!!
Triana - El patio (1975 spain prog)
I never heard the name of this band before, probably they were mainly well-known in their country. So far I did not dive that deeply into the Spanish 70‘s prog, not that much as into the Italian one. Although there were a few very good bands like ATILA, MEZQUITA , GOTIC or BLOQUE, I’ve got to say many are too much rooted in flamenco, which is not so much my type of music and the vocals sound often too passionate, sentimental and bombastic, at least for my taste. TRIANA is not really disproving this cliche, because for me the portion of progressive elements in their music is not very high and I’m rather seduced to call it flamenco with some touch of progressive rock. EL PATIO, their debut is still probably one of their better efforts. But even here there are not many progressive moments to find apart of the first song, which is really a good one and maybe the last one, having good electric guitar and nice organ sound. But the songs between these two are mainly flamenco-based ones with passionate moaning vocals, quite nice to listen probably for anyone liking such kinda music, but I wouldn’t call it an essential record in progressive rock. So I think 3 1/2 stars is adequate for this album.

Ophiucus - Ophiucus (Fra psych prog 1972)
While a bit aimless sometimes, this is still an excellent record. The music varies between Pink Floydian art rock, introverted ZNR-like structures, and folksy, almost Linda Perhacs-like chansons. There are even a few Canned Heat-ish blues rockers in the brew. It stays very controlled and french, and quite brilliant. Highlight is the autistic "L'eveil De Notre Temps". Recommended!

Wheelin'N Dealin'is an under-rated slice of 70's guitar boogie. The group never escaped from the English college circuit but deserved to on the evidence of this album. The singing is excellent and the musicianship, especially the guitars is good. The title track is one of the highlights along with a cover of CSN&Y's 'Ohio' If you are a fan of British guitar music e.g. Thin Lizzy, you will enjoy this - if you can find it !

Yonin-Bayashi - Isshoku Sokuhatsu(1973 japan masterpiece heavy prog)
This LP is fantastic! Although they do have a sound very much their own, you can't help but notice how these guys were influenced in a big way, by the British hard progressive rock of the day.
It has a sound very close to that of; Pink Floyd, Armageddon, Nektar, Camel ect.
Half way through side 1, they do a really cool 'Captain Beyond/Armageddon' type thing, which blows me away!
I highly recommend this LP/CD, if you enjoy this type of music. The Japanese lyrics only add to the charm of this gem! A great musical ride!!!

Impressive rock especially from the beginning. The first four tracks flow into each other well and are awesome. Though not overtly psychedelic, there are flashes present as are some progressive leanings. The major draw is the excellent interplay of guitar, bass and drums. The fifth track "Road to Glory" is rather weak, but the rest of the album is solid though not quite as good as the beginning. "Mister Westwood" boasts some great guitar and the bonus track "Something That You Loved" might be the best on the whole album.

Impressive rock especially from the beginning. The first four tracks flow into each other well and are awesome. Though not overtly psychedelic, there are flashes present as are some progressive leanings. The major draw is the excellent interplay of guitar, bass and drums. The fifth track "Road to Glory" is rather weak, but the rest of the album is solid though not quite as good as the beginning. "Mister Westwood" boasts some great guitar and the bonus track "Something That You Loved" might be the best on the whole album.

Grandissimi lavori di musica prog francese!il sound è molto ricercato, delicato e molto melodico con ampi riferimeti alla tradizione sinfonica italiana! ottimo lavoro! Dovrebbero essere legati in qualche modo ai gruppi postati ieri!
Taï Phong - Taï Phong(1975)
Do you recognize the French singer and guitarist, Jean-Jacques Goldman, the one who composed Céline Dion's "Là-Bas", a very popular French hit also interpreted by Corey Hart and Julie Masse? It is him, here on this not very well known progressive rock record, singing and playing electric guitars.
Jean-Jacques has a very highly pitched voice, sounding a bit like Geddy Lee of the 70's. The keyboards are modern for the year, atmospheric, dense and powerful. It is an emotional album, not dark but definitely mind troubling. "Going Away" is a good track, being prog hard rock full of changing rhythms; its electric guitars often sound a bit like Steve Hillage, having a short lite wah-wah effect part. "Sister Jane" is absolutely catchy & delightful, having intensely floating keyboards and AWESOME, graceful, loud & powerful backing vocals. "Crest" has a powerful ambient organ, very fast and complex drums, and, again, beautiful, graceful & powerful backing vocals; Goldman shouts like an unpleasant kid in the middle of the track. "For years and years" is the chef d'oeuvre by excellence: it starts with a beautiful rhythmic piano a la George Duke (Frank Zappa of the 70's); the track is very progressive, and the moaning electric guitar solo sounds a bit like David Gilmour's slide guitar; there are peaceful and soothing backing vocals; then, a very complex & clinical part a la Steve Hillage occurs; the end of the track consists in a GRACEFUL combination of Fender Rhodes, inoffensive acoustic & electric guitars and floating organ, slowly growing in intensity, and finally terminating in colorful streams of miscellaneous keyboards and lead & backing vocals: a GRAND lullaby!
On the other side, the delicate and powerful "Field of gold" consists in piano, sissy lead & backing vocals, which unblocks to a powerful catchy refrain; this then leads to a VERY impressive stagnant keyboards texture: it quite sounds like the end of the Tangerine dream's "Force Majeure" track or like the Gandalf's "Imaginary voyage" album. The last track, "Out of the night", is another progressive gem: a heavy ambient organ makes a very slow rhythm, and some excellent Asiatic lead vocals make a catchy melody; there are, again, some excellent backing vocals and very intensely floating keyboards, plus a very good & long guitar solo; it ends with a nostalgic piano part and a shower.

This French progressive rock band has 2 Asiatic members: they give the music a unique, charming and original style. The intensely floating keyboards and the miscellaneous acoustic guitars parts of a couples of tracks remind the Gandalf's "Imaginary voyage" album. There are some excellent, melancholic, expressive and melodic electric guitar solos. This progressive record contains many delicate and ethereal bits, although at a slightly lower level if you compare to the previous album. Some bits have excellent piano parts. Like on the first album, there are still many AWESOME, androgynous & catchy backing vocals; it seems there are more acoustic guitars than on the previous album. There is also an omnipresent densely floating combination of organ and more modern keyboards, which gives an overall ambient mood to this record. The rhythm is rather slow, so the tracks are often relaxing. There are a couples of acoustic Oriental ambiences. If you like their first album, then you should like this one too.
