A decent album for garage aficionados, this is a mix of light weight pop with garage flavor, and some harder, grittier cuts, featuring punk flavor and fuzz guitar. They were from Amarillo, Tex. Grades - 3 B's, 3 B-'s, 3 C+'s, and 2 C's

Murahachibu - Live + 1(jap hard rock garage 1973)

Why are there no reviews for this band? I own an album of theirs called 'Live' from 1973 and it is wonderful. The rhythm guitar riffs have a definite Keith Richards influence. The drumming is really strong and 'on the money'. If you enjoy the sound of a real, nonproduced, basic, infectious drum kit then this is the album for you. There are copies of Chuck Berry-type songs and stuff like that. Some of it puts me in mind of The Stooges. Of course the singing is all in Japanese but with music this good, who cares? I would recommend this to anyone who likes good basic no-nonsense real music. From RYM (xvgi)

Q65 - Revolution (holl 1966 garage)

Pretty impressive garage rock from this band from the Netherlands. The opener, "The Life I Live" is an excellent opener which, like almost every song, has a very garage feel to it. "I Got Nightmares" has some great rhythmic drum and bass while "Just Who's in Sight" has a definite Eastern feel to it, mostly because of the vocals, droning guitar, and some sort of flute interlude in the middle. The sax on "Mr. Pitiful" is well done as is the pounding rhythms and accompanying harmonica on "I'm a Man." "Summer Thoughts in a Field of Weed" is an excellent down tempo number and "Sour Wine" is another gem with haunting organ and acoustic guitar. "Bring it on Home" is a longer, bluesier thirteen minute jam that is great at times, but not at others, and needed to be about six or seven minutes shorter. From RYM (branting)

The Chocolate Watchband - No Way Out (1967 great psych garage)

ok, so this isnt really a "Chocolate Watchband" album.
ok some of it is, but on half of these tracks, the lead vocals were handled by some session singer at the management's or label's or producer's request.
frankly that decision is plain baffling, because the singer used would clearly have been more suited to soul/motown music than a trippy garagey album and because the band's own singer (who sings on a handful of songs here and some fine singles) sounds like a snottier west-coast version of Mick Jagger.
Then there's the two instrumentals created by the producer that the band doesnt even play on.
sure the band were short changed by some of those decisions, especially the singer, but at the end of the day the finished record is actually really good.
its a mix of trippy garagey music, with some more overtly psychedelic moments such as the two aforementioned instrumentals, the bo diddley-meets-raga track of Gone And Passes By, the backwards ending of the title track and the trippy ending of Gossamer Wings.
Sure this could have been better if the band's own singer (should really put in the effort to look up his name here) had handled the vocals, but as it is this is a great psychedelic garage album.
